MISSION
The Association of Native American Medical Students (ANAMS) is a student organization representing Native American graduate and undergraduate health professions students throughout the US and Canada. The goals of ANAMS include providing support and a resource network for all Native Americans currently enrolled in various allied health professions schools. ANAMS strives to increase the number of Native American students in medicine and other health professions.
Our organization is primarily supported by the Association of American Indian Physicians (AAIP). On our pathway into the health professions, we hope to provide Native students a resource network.
Goals
Graduate
To support American Indian and Alaska Native Medical students in the successful completion of their graduate health professions curricula.
Communicate
To provide a forum for the interchange of ideas and information among Native American graduate health professions students
Cultivate
To assist the Indian tribes and Indian organizations in the recruitment, cultivation and retention of Native Americans into medicine and other health care careers
Represent
ANAMS is a national student organization representing medicine and the allied health professions throughout the United States and Canada
HISTORY
Founded in 1975, the Association of Native American Medical Students (ANAMS) is a student organization representing Native American graduate health profession students throughout the U.S. and Canada. ANAMS is comprised of Native American students enrolled in medical school or in the allied health professions: Dentistry, Veterinary, Optometry, Podiatry, Pharmacy, and Public Health.
